Houston Beer Week: November 10-17, 2012November 7, 2012
Houston Beer Week is a week-long celebration of craft beer featuring beers from Texas-based breweries as well as those from around the U.S. and the world. Houstonians can expect a myriad of craft beer-related events to take place at various restaurants, bars and retail establishments throughout the Greater Houston area.
As in years past, there will be beer dinners, tastings, visits by brewery personnel, beer celebrities and more. Houstonians can visit a tasting from a small brewery where they can explore a beer they have never had before, or dive into an 8-course beer dinner and immerse themselves into a true beer geek’s universe.
Events will be featured on the calendar on the Houston Beer Week website and will be organized by day of the week. New for 2012, Houston Beer Week created the Houston Beer Week Committee—a group of die-hard fans who will help promote and manage different facets of beer week.
The third year of The Draft will be a fine food, craft beer and entertainment environment that will be a combination of the charity fundraising efforts of the Monsters Of Beer Festival and the rare beer event, Night After Monsters, managed by Houston Beer Week. The Draft was built with the discerning adult in mind. This event will provide a first-class experience of gourmet foods from area restaurants plus roasted pigs for all, finely crafted beers, local art and music along with other unique areas for relaxation and enjoyment.
However, there is a serious charity component at The Draft—the goal is to raise $30,000 for Live It BIG. Live It BIG, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that raises money in support of small and start-up charities in Houston. For 2012, Live It BIG is supporting two charities: Friday Harbour, a non-profit charity that assists cancer patients and their families who are in need of hotel space and other necessities while in treatment at MD Anderson and Texas Children’s Hospital, and Stepping Stones Charter School, a charter school in southwest Houston serving underprivileged and at-risk children.
Although craft beer will be an integral part of The Draft, our focus is toward craft in general. Area restaurants will be providing tasting portions of their wares and we have a committee-sponsored pig roast as part of the ticket price. In addition, there will be a Beer Garden where attendees will have the option of buying a pint of beer and relaxing in a cozy environment. There will be a coffee program, as well as a designated area for cigar sampling. The “Back Room” will allow limited numbers of attendees into a private area with free bottled water, soft drinks, private bathrooms and private seating. There will also be a bottle share area open to a limited number of attendees. If you are interested in a truly unique experience, look for “The Ultimate Draft” package, a customizable private experience for up to 10 attendees with special introductions, one of a kind beer tastings, gifts and private lectures. This is an exciting way to attend a festival, but receive an insider’s experience.
Tickets for The Draft are on sale now. Ticket prices are $40 for General Admission, $50 for General Admission + entrance to the Bottle Share area, $60 for General Admission + Back Room, or $70 for All Access. A limited number of lower cost, pre-sale tickets will be available for purchase via the Houston Beer Week Committee through November 9. In order to secure the lower cost tickets, reach out to a Houston Beer Week Committee member—these limited tickets will go fast! Per TABC regulations, any ticket level will entitle the holder to 12 tasting tickets for 2 oz. craft beer samples. Tickets will not be needed for the restaurants providing food or the pig roast at The Draft. Additional tasting tickets will be available for purchase on site for a cost of $5/10.
