KARL’s New Medal-Winning San Diego-Style IPA Takes California by Storm

Share Post

San Diego, CA — April 27th, 2016     The brewing team at Karl Strauss spent more than a year fine tuning the recipe for their much anticipated new IPA, Aurora Hoppyalis. The brand was released as a year-round offering in January and immediately saw an unprecedented sales response in craft beer bars across California. In fact, Aurora Hoppyalis has quickly become a highly coveted beer that is now a top selling IPA in many accounts.

Distributors in Northern California sold out of their first orders in just a couple of days. “The market response in Northern California has been incredible. Consumers have quickly embraced the beer’s unique profile and our accounts can’t seem to get enough of it!” –Peter August, Regional Sales Manager, Karl Strauss Brewing Company.  Southern California has been equally receptive with accounts calling the company to request the beer.

This dynamic new IPA was born out of the company’s small batch satellite brewery program where brewers are encouraged to experiment with new recipes and unique ingredients. In efforts to meet surging demand, the company recently added another 240-Barrel fermentation tank at their main production brewery in Pacific Beach. “We are excited to release this beer as a year-round offering. Our brewing team worked hard to refine the recipe to make a great representation of a San Diego-style IPA, with intense hop flavor & aroma and mild bitterness. It’s an honor to see the market respond so positively and for the beer to have been recognized by our industry peers at last year’s GABF.” –Matt Johnson, Brewmaster, Karl Strauss Brewing Company.

In addition to the medal win at GABF, Aurora Hoppyalis recently took first place in two different blind taste competitions featuring California brewed IPAs. The first was the annual California Craft Beer Throwdown event held during 2016’s San Francisco Beer Week where Aurora Hoppyalis won the title of “Best Tasting IPA”. And earlier this month, Aurora Hoppyalis won first place in a San Diego-based March Madness-style tournament that included 32 of San Diego’s best-selling IPAs.

Aurora Hoppyalis is now available across California on draft, in 22oz bombers, and in 6 packs of 12oz bottles. To learn more about Karl Strauss Brewing Company’s Aurora Hoppyalis San Diego-style IPA, visit www.karlstrauss.com.

Okay fine, we admit it, you can’t see the Northern Lights this far south. But San Diego has its own version of Aurora Borealis, and ours has cast a hoppy spell over this city. What the rest of the world calls an IPA, San Diego locals consider pale in comparison. Aurora Hoppyalis is our San Diego-style IPA brewed with Simcoe, Mosaic, Amarillo, and Citra hops. Robust flavors and aromas of tropical fruit, pine, and tangerine linger through a dry, crisp finish. Tonight’s forecast: clear hoppy skies.
