Newest installment in Farm to Foam® series released May 14th

Boulder, Colorado – May 14th 2013 – Fans of Twisted Pine Brewing Company will soon find a super-refreshing new way to cool off in the early summer sun as the brewery releases their Cucumber Cream Ale, the second offering from its popular Farm to Foam series.  The beer, made with over 300 lbs of Colorado cucumbers, will be available May 14th.

Twisted Pine began the Farm to Foam series last year as “a tribute to the sustainable spirit of Colorado.”  With that goal in mind, the brewers source all ingredients for each beer in-state.  The latest recipe utilizes malted barley and wheat from Colorado Malting Company in Alamosa, Crystal hops from Misty Mountain Hop Farm in Olathe, and English cucumbers (clipped from their vines just a day or two prior to use) from 2 R’s Farm in Platteville.

Lead brewer Henry Jager explains that the decision to use only Colorado-grown ingredients, while restrictive in a sense, opens the door to new avenues of creativity in recipe-writing.  “Our options for local grain and hop varieties are certainly limited, but there are so many other plants that grow well here and, if you open your mind a little and are willing to get a little weird, the possibilities for great beers are pretty vast.”

Cucumber Cream Ale sits in the glass a slightly hazed, sunglow yellow topped with a head the color and consistency of freshly whipped cream.  The beer breathes out the aroma of garden-fresh cucumbers fringed with subtle esters from the yeast just before the fruit (yes, cucumber is a fruit, Look it up!) pops on the tongue with a soft, cooling effect.  Malt and hop flavors are intentionally subdued, making Twisted Pine’s newest Farm to Foam beer the perfect type of light and refreshing beverage to quench one’s thirst after a long day spent in the sun… perhaps gardening.

Cucumber Cream Ale will be available in limited amounts on draft and in wax-dipped 750ml bottles throughout Colorado and a select few other states.  More details can be found at twistedpinebrewing.com.  And keep an eye out later this summer as Twisted Pine plans to reprise last year’s Roots Revival, the carrot IPA that kicked off the Farm to Foam series.
