Five years ago an intrepid group of beer lovers, beer industry workers and beer fans embarked on a promise to bring a heightened awareness of craft beer to the Baltimore region. Through strategic planning and on hope that “if they build it people will come”, Baltimore Beer Week began. Former Oriole great, Boog Powell, took a mighty swing with the soon to be famous Star Spangled Banger and the first ceremonial cask from Heavy Seas was breached.
It’s hard to look back at what was once a pipe dream and now see the 5th Anniversary upon us. Much has changed since then and the landscape for craft beer in and around Baltimore and Maryland has blossomed. Some might say it was destined to happen but those of us involved in Baltimore Beer Week like to think that our little group of devotees has shined even more light to an ever growing bastion of beer goodness.
The 2013 Baltimore Beer Week will kick off on October 18th and run through October 27th. Highlights this year will be a new festival to be held at M & T Bank Stadium on October 19th. A special Baltimore Beer Week VIP Event will precede the new Das Best Oktoberfest in a festival heretofore unseen in these parts. Bookending beer week will be the 10th Anniversary of The Chesapeake Real Ale Festival. With nearly 400+ events anticipated, Baltimore Beer Week will once again be THE scene for All Things Beer in the Land of Pleasant Living…
