Owned and operated by soon-to-be-married Carrie Blackmore (Owner) and Matt Whalen (Brewer), GNB opened on January 12, 2012 to much fanfare with 5 flagship brews. They brew their ales with 100% locally-grown hops, and design their recipes with other local flavors in mind (honey, chamomile, chicory root etc.). Their “good natured” business model has generated a lot of support from their community and beyond. The only micro-brewery within about 40 miles of Hamilton, GNB has only been able to supply one local tavern with its product, instead selling the vast majority of its ales as growler fills out of their small tasting room in the village of Hamilton. The expansion will allow GNB to take on more accounts, participate in more brewfests and events, generate even more traffic to the tasting room, and expand it’s product line up. Their goals are to have 7-8 beers on tap, bottle their specialty and seasonal ales in 22oz bottles for sale in the tasting room, and they are developing a root beer recipe. They will continue to self-distribute their beer, and have hired one full-time and one part-time employee.
An excerpt from an April Blog post:
“We want to thank all of you for making this possible for us. We never expected in our wildest dreams that we’d be at this point so early in the game. It is due to the support of our community, our members, and our customers that we’re here and thriving. Thank you!”
