Drink Beer, and help reintroduce elk to Wisconsin!

Black River Falls, WI – October 30th, 2014 – Sand Creek Brewing Company will donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of their newest beer, Bugler Brown Ale to the Jackson County Wildlife Fund to support Black River Area Elk Restoration efforts.

Elk, which once roamed throughout Wisconsin, were removed from the land through overharvest during the mid to late 1800s. A reintroduction attempt occurred in 1932 by re- locating elk from Yellowstone National Park to Vilas County, but survival was poor due to poaching. In 1989 a study was conducted to determine if elk, moose, and/or caribou could successfully be reintroduced; it was determined that elk reintroduction effort could succeed. In 1995, an experimental herd was released into northern Wisconsin under the management of the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point. The herd is closely monitored and numerous aspects have been researched over the years, and eventually transitioned to research and management by the Department of Natural Resources.

In 1999 Jackson County Wildlife Fund recognized that studies indicated elk could prosper locally and they spared no time in gaining support of local municipalities, citizens, businesses and the Department of Natural Resources. A Black River Elk Herd Management Plan was adopted in 2001, only to have all efforts come to a halt when Chronic Wasting Disease was first detected in the state. Jackson County Wildlife Fund continued to work closely with the State and other partners in hopes of one day regaining that momentum.

Here we are almost 20 years later with the exciting prospect of elk being restored to the Black River Area. Bugler Brown Ale is as serene as an elk’s bugle whistling through the forest on a fall evening. Bugler Brown ale is a velvety smooth session ale brewed with a duo of Belgian and American dark-roasted malts. A color representative of its style, and is sure to inspire visions of elk on our Wisconsin landscape. We are ecstatic to produce a beer that supports Jackson County Wildlife Fund and their elk restoration efforts. This offers a unique opportunity to our consumers to contribute and connect to the project as well. A project and a beer that we are excited about, and we believe they will be as well.

The Bugler Brown Ale packaging depicts an image as tantalizing as its contents. Its bold logo of a bugling bull elk silhouette in a beautiful setting is sure to grab your attention. Watch for it on the shelves as it makes its way to stores during the month of October. Sand Creek Brewing Company is one of the state’s largest microbreweries, producing fine craft-brewed ales and lagers in the proud tradition of Wisconsin brewing.
