DES MOINES-April 1, 2014—The Iowa Brewers Guild (IBG) announced the hiring of J. Wilson as the trade association’s coordinator on April 1.

“J’s going to be a great asset to the Guild,” said IBG President Dave Coy. “We’ve grown from a small group of brewers meeting around a picnic table to an organized trade association with our first hire. It’s taken years of volunteer effort to get us to the point where we have the structure and reserve funds to allow us the luxury of a hired coordinator.”

The author of Diary of a Part-time Monk and editor at the beer blog, brewvana.net, Wilson worked for North Carolina’s Duck-Rabbit Craft Brewery before moving to Iowa, where he has become involved in the Iowa beer and brewing scene since his arrival in 2007. A certified beer judge and award winning homebrewer, Wilson was named 2012 Beer Drinker of the Year in the annual contest held by Wynkoop Brewing Company in Denver, Colo.

“The Iowa beer scene is growing by leaps and bounds and has a lot to be proud of,” said Wilson. “I’m pleased to join the IBG team and look forward to working on behalf of all the state’s brewers.”

Working with the state’s brewers and other stakeholders, Wilson will help the IBG fulfill its mission to promote, protect and improve the craft brewing industry in the state. Early priorities for Wilson’s work include coordinating events, growing the Guild’s brewer membership, rolling out a consumer enthusiast membership program, supporting the industry’s legislative interests and boosting educational opportunities for both the state’s brewers and consumers.

“Almost everyone in the brewing industry in the state is already familiar with J.,” said Coy. “He’s been an active beer blogger, traveled and met almost all of the brewers throughout the state and has written for publications centered on the beer industry. We are looking forward to his creative and knowledgeable efforts assisting the guild.”
