LADYFACE MEDALS AT 2014 LA AND SAN DIEGO INTERNATIONAL BEER COMPETITIONS

Agoura Hills, CA – Ladyface Ale Companie was a winner this year at the 2014 Los Angeles International Beer Competition as Trébuchet™ took the Gold medal in the American-style Sour Ale category, Brett Blossom with Silver in the American Style Brett Ale category and Chesebro IPA in the Imperial India Pale Ale category.   Held recently at the Fairplex in Pomona, California, the LAIBC is organized and run by the Los Angeles County Fair.  Conducted as a blind tasting, the competition is registered with the Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) and the Brewers Association.  The Conejo Valley craft brewery, now in its fifth year of operation, also medaled at the 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 competitions.

Ladyface also took the Gold medal at the San Diego International Beer Competition with Blue-Belly™ Barleywine in the Barleywine category.

Owner and manager Cyrena Nouzille said, “Trébuchet® and Brett Blossom are part of a series of sour farmhouse-style ales that Ladyface will be releasing over the course of the year. While they will be very limited in quantity, the goal is to create unique styles that beer connoisseurs seek and to offer new flavor profiles that our brewpub guests may not have tasted before. We’ve been investing in the expansion of our barrel-aging program this last year with a new warehouse facility off-site and over 120 wine, port and whiskey barrels. It’s gratifying to see the results of our project win awards.”

Brewmaster David Griffiths contributed, “Chesebro IPA is one of our most popular flagship brands, and the Imperial IPA is one of the most competitive categories in competition, especially in California.” All of these brands are currently available on tap at the brewpub.

2014  LA INTERNATIONAL BEER COMPETITION

Gold Medal Winner                          TRÉBUCHET™American-style Sour Ale Category This Golden Farmhouse-style ale is the first of Ladyface’s “Ingenuity” ales – an industrious series of barrel-aged inventions. Trébuchet™ was created by aging Ladyface’s  Chaparral Saison in Sauvignon Blanc barrels for 7 months, with additions of lactobacillus for a distinct tartness without “barnyard” character. Moderately intense aroma with notes of Belgian yeast & apple skin. Somewhat tart flavor with integrated honey, green apple & tannin. Finishes very dry, lingers long with Belgian yeast tones. ABV 8.7%

Silver Medal Winner                        BRETT BLOSSOM BIÈRE DE MARSAmerican Style Brett Ale Category

Born in the countryside of northern France, a Bière de Mars means “March Beer”. In contrast to its kissing cousin Bière de Garde (“beer for keeping”), it was traditionally brewed during the winter months and meant to be consumed fresh in the Spring. Our Spring ale, Brett Blossom Bière de Mars, is brewed using oats, wheat & flaked corn and then fermented with 100% Brettanomyces lambicus in Napa Cabernet barrels, the old-fashioned way, with no steel fermentation. Brett Blossom has the distinct musty, farmhouse character of wild yeast, with notes of fruit and spice, and the perfect ale to enjoy as the weather warms.  ABV 6.8%

Bronze Medal Winner                      CHESEBRO IPAImperial IPA Category

Named for a local canyon, deep amber in color, this Double IPA has a powerfully floral aroma of grapefruit, pine and tropical fruits. Full bodied with subtle malt tones. Brewed with 11 different hop additions and moderately bitter, the emphasis is on hop flavor and aroma and a long, hoppy finish. ABV 10% IBU

2014 SAN DIEGO INTERNATIONAL BEER COMPETITION

Gold Medal Winner                           BLUE-BELLY BARLEYWINE – Barleywine Category

Ladyface’s indigenous interpretation of an English barleywine is named after the lively, blue-bellied, native lizards that dwell in our backyards. The ale has full-bodied structure and bold toffee malt character, balanced with medium citrus & floral hop qualities, soft hop pine resins that stem from layers of Apollo, Columbus and Bravo hop varietals. A strong ale finishing drier than expected with notes of leather and dried fruit. ABV 10.7%
