Northwest Brewing News Ranks Lost Coast Brewery’s Indica IPA one of the best in Northern California

Eureka, CA July 7, 2015 – Lost Coast Brewery’s Indica IPA is one of three India Pale Ale beers to score a 4.5 out of 5 in Northwest Brewing News June/July issue. The judging panels blind tasted 21 different IPAs from breweries in Northern California all the way up to British Columbia. included an IPA tasting panel all the way from British Columbia down to Northern California. 21 IPA’s from different breweries were sampled at various events. Lost Coast Brewery’s Indica IPA was one of three to score a 4.5 out of 5. With only one IPA from Oregon’s Breakside Brewery scoring a 5 out of 5. 

The tasting panel for the Northern California beer took place aAt the Northern California Boonville Beer Festival. The panel was made up of beer industry professional and IPA-aficionados. The judges sampled from Lost Coast Brewery, Eel River Brewing Company, Russian River Brewing, Sierra Nevada, Lagunitas, and Mavericks Brewing Company were tasted and scored. Eel River’s Emerald Triangle IPA and Lost Coast’s Indica IPA received 4.5s ’s while Russian River Blind Pig IPA and Sierra Nevada’s Hop Hunter IPA scored solid 4s’s. Lagunitas Flagship IPA and Maverick’s Brewing Tunnel Vision IPA both received 2.5’s. 

Indica IPA is a smooth, full-bodied, unfiltered IPA with exceptional malt characteristics. It is dry hopped with Crystal, Chinook and Cascade hops to provide a wonderful citrusy aroma. Bravo hops are added to bring an incredible balance of flavors. True to the style, Indica has a higher than average alcohol content of 6.5% ABV.

Since Lost Coast Brewery & Café’s humble beginning in 1990, the brewery has outgrown not one but two locations and has completed its final move to a brand new brewing facility in the south end of Eureka, CA. Owner, Barbara Groom, designed it to not only brew exceptional beers, but to be open for the public to enjoy as well. Tours and tasting should be available in late Summer 2015. Currently the new facility is brewing at a 90,000 – barrel capacity and is still working to brew to greater heights!
