Annual Award Recognizes Positive Contributions to Restaurant and Brewing Industries

HOUSTON, October 7, 2013 – Brock Wagner, Founder/Brewer of Saint Arnold Brewing Co. (www.saintarnold.com), the oldest craft brewery in Texas, was honored last night by My Table magazine with the 2013 Legend of Houston Restaurants Award. The award is presented annually during the Houston Culinary Awards presented by Sysco, which is now in its 17th year of recognizing Houston’s top culinary talent.

“We are very pleased to honor Brock Wagner, who has positively influenced the restaurant industry and the Houston community for nearly 20 years,” said My Table Publisher/Editor Teresa Byrne-Dodge. “The awards nominating committee considered Brock’s deep roots in local brewing, high professional standards, leadership in the craft beer field, his tireless push for progressive legislation to encourage craft brewing throughout Texas and his local philanthropy to be of high importance.”

Recent past “Legends” honorees have included Jim Goode (Goode Company family of restaurants), Jim Gossen (Louisiana Foods Global Seafood Source and Jimmy G’s restaurant), and Damian, Vincent and Tony Mandola.

“I have a lot of respect for those whose hard work has helped Houston become one of the best restaurant cities in the United States and was pleasantly surprised to receive this award,” said Wagner. “A great deal of credit goes to all those accounts willing to spread the word about craft beer even when not a lot of people were listening. It’s great to see the world of craft beer blossoming like it is today and I proudly share this honor with everyone who has helped to make Saint Arnold what it is today.”

Established in 1994, Saint Arnold is ranked among the top 50 craft breweries in America by the Brewers Association. It distributes its beers throughout Texas and Louisiana, and recently expanded to Colorado’s Front Range. Saint Arnold’s brewery on the northern edge of downtown Houston attracts 100,000 people to the brewery annually, making it one of Houston’s top tourist destinations.

In honor of his award, Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, was officially proclaimed, “Brock Wagner Day” in the city of Houston by Mayor Annise Parker. The award was presented at a gala dinner at The Houstonian.
