Sold-Out Event to Feature Dogs, Trees, Beer and a Big Check

HOUSTON, May 11, 2016 – Dogs have a special affinity for trees, which is why the Houston Arboretum is the perfect location for Saint Arnold’s (www.saintarnold.com) first ever PUP Crawl. The sold-out event will celebrate the success of Saint Arnold’s Ale Wagger initiative.

When: 4:00 to 6:30 p.m., Sunday, May 15th. What: PUP Crawl and check presentation (approximately 6:20 p.m.) Where: The Houston Arboretum, 4501 Woodway Drive, Houston

The oldest craft brewery in Texas launched the Ale Wagger initiative in September 2014 to raise funds for animal welfare organizations, encourage responsible pet ownership and urge the craft beer community to adopt homeless animals. Since the launch, the brewery has partnered with more than a dozen organizations throughout Texas, Louisiana and Florida. In the coming months, brewery officials will present donations representing a portion of proceeds from the sale of Ale Wagger Brown in each market.

Near the conclusion of Sunday’s PUP Crawl at the Houston Arboretum, Saint Arnold Founder/Brewer Brock Wagner will present a check for $12,000 to representatives of the Houston BARC Foundation. The funds were raised through the sale of Saint Arnold Ale Wagger, an award-winning brown ale. One dollar from each case is earmarked to support local animal welfare organizations. This initial donation will support the City of Houston’s BARC Animal Shelter and Adoptions spay/neuter initiatives.

“Our love for our own animals combined with the problem Houston has with stray and unwanted dogs and cats led us to create the Ale Wagger initiative,” said Saint Arnold Founder/Brewer Brock Wagner. “The Saint Arnold community support is what makes this donation possible. We are excited to be part of the answer here and in all communities where our beer is sold. My family’s three rescue dogs and four rescue cats also endorse these efforts.”

Sunday’s PUP Crawl will mimic Saint Arnold’s very popular pub crawls, with participants and their dogs progressing through a series of stops to enjoy beer, their surroundings and each other. Located on the western edge of Memorial Park, the 155-acre Houston Arboretum provides education about the natural environment. Proceeds from tickets for Sunday’s PUP Crawl will be split between the Houston Arboretum and the Houston BARC Foundation.

The Saint Arnold Ale Wagger initiative is just the latest example of the brewery’s philanthropic spirit. Over the past three years, the Saint Arnold team in the BP MS150 raised more than $1 million for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Additionally, Saint Arnold has donated more than $85,000 to the Galveston Historical Foundation from the sale of Saint Arnold Elissa IPA, which supports the upkeep and repair of the beer’s namesake, the tall ship ELISSA.

Saint Arnold Ale Wagger Brown, formerly known as Saint Arnold Brown Ale, is a deep copper brown ale. Recognized among the best brown ales in the world, it has a full, malty body with hints of chocolate, a touch of sweetness and a light hop flavor. Some of the awards have included a Bronze Medal in the English-Style Brown Ale category at the 2003 Great American Beer Festival, a Silver medal in the American Brown Ale category at the 1996 World Beer Cup, and Silver Medals in the Brown Ale category at the World Beer Championships in 1998 and 1996.
