Share Post

NEWPORT NEWS, VA— Beer lovers from the Hampton Roads area get to participate in a battle for best craft brew! The Mariners’ Museum is hosting its third installment of Battle of the Beers on Friday, November 7, 2014. This year’s theme is Land vs. Sea where Virginia craft breweries from Coastal Virginia and the Blue Ridge Mountains face off for the best beer. It’s a battle of the salty dogs and land lubbers!

The evening will be splashed with craft beer tastings from numerous regional brewers. Guests can speak with brewery representatives about the delicacies of craft brewing, different styles of beer and suggested pairings with food. There will be heavy appetizers to go along with our Land vs. Sea theme.

Tickets include ten Virginia craft beer samples, themed appetizers, a souvenir glass and ale-inspired live music. Each craft beer sample will be 4 ounces and served in the souvenir tasting glass. Live music will be provided by the Esoteric Ramblers, the beer-bards behind the suds-soaked CD titled Keg of Love. Guests can share their appreciation for acoustic music and ale with the Esoteric Ramblers.

Land vs. Sea? Guests will decide who wins! There will be five different categories of beer: Lager, IPA, Wheat, Pale and Seasonal. Land vs. Sea breweries will face off at each table in their respective category. Tasters can vote for their favorite. At the end of the evening, the title will be awarded to Land or Sea in each category based on overall votes.  Participating breweries include Back Bay, Starr Hill, Smartmouth , Devils Backbone, AleWerks, O’Conner, St. George and Legend.

This event has sold out every year, so the Museum encourages guests to purchase tickets in advance. Tickets are available for purchase at BattleOfTheBeers.net. Tickets are $35 in advance, $45 at the door, and $30 for Museum Members. The event takes place in The Mariners’ Museum’s Main Lobby and Concourse.
