Editor’s Note: As of June 22, the brewery reports approximately 800 of the stolen cases of beer have been recovered. SweetWater is still asking for help in tracking down the remaining cases.

Early Tuesday morning two trailers containing 3272 cases (78,528 bottles) of beer were stolen from SweetWater Brewing Co.’s brewery on Ottley Drive NE in Atlanta. The brewery says the theft could be particularly bad news for beer lovers in its home market.

At the time of the theft, the two trailers had been left out for morning pickups. While the trailers have been located via GPS, both were empty when they were found.

“The really bad news is we were already having trouble keeping the Variety Pack and Goin’ Coastal on shelves ‘cuz they were selling like hotcakes,” the brewery explained on social media. “And this was basically our entire inventory in Atlanta, so you may not see it on shelves for a minute.”

The first trailer contained cases of summer variety packs that remained unsorted and was intended to go to the brewery’s repack location. The brewery is asking for customers and retailers to be on the lookout for SweetWater Summer Variety Packs containing just one style of beer. The beers in these unsorted variety packs included 420, IPA, Take Two Pils, and the brewery’s new Goin’ Coastal IPA. They’re marked with either a 9/20 or 9/21 “best if enjoyed by” date.

The second trailer was full of ready-for-market (sorted) Summer Variety packs.

How You Can Help

If you find any of these unsorted SweetWater Summer Variety packs, or any Summer Variety packs with the expiration date of 9/20 or 9/21 in weird places, please alert the brewery by emailing feedback@sweetwaterbrew.com or calling 404.691.ALES. If you’re a retailer and someone other than SweetWater’s regular distributor is attempting to sell you beer, contact 911 and reference the case.
