Beer for Friends

Have you ever gotten a free coffee from the stranger in front of you, or had a friend pay for your meal just because? Yeah me either, but apparently it’s a growing trend in American drive-thrus, restaurants and even our beloved craft breweries. This trend recently caught the eye of NBC Nightly News, what the video: “Paying it forward, one drive-through at a time.”

Say your buddy is in serious need of a good craft beer, but due to another late night in the office he’s not able to join you for happy hour; enter Beer for Friends, the solution from Solemn Oath Brewery. In their Naperville, Ill., taproom hangs a chalkboard full of the names of generous givers and lucky receivers of beers, flights and growlers. Want to get your buddy that beer? Easy, all you have to do is tell the bartender their name and pay for it, the next time your friend goes to the taproom they’ve got a beer on your dime ready to be poured.

No worries if they don’t frequent the bar, the credit never expires. But, after 60 days it’s erased from the chalkboard and enters the Book of Shame, appropriately titled: “cash in on that free beer and pay it forward already, your thirsty friend is waiting!”

You can check out Solemn Oath’s Beer for Friends chalkboard in person by visiting their taproom, or head to their website and see the list for yourself. Make someone’s day today, start a pay-it-forward movement and buy your friend—or a stranger—a craft beer!
