Sudwerk Ultimator: It’s Bock!

DAVIS, Calif. — Dark, bold and delicious, Sudwerk Brewing Co.’s winter seasonal beer, the Doppel Bock Ultimator, is back for 2015.

Sudwerk brewers continue to make this dark, German lager as authentic as possible. A 10-week, cold storage process gives the Doppel Bock Ultimator a velvety smooth finish, earning it countless medals since its original release 25 years ago. Roasted malts create the reddish-black color and coffee-like flavors. With 8% ABV and a moderate 45 IBU, it warms us up just in time for the holiday season.

Six packs of the Doppel Bock Ultimator are available at Whole Foods, Raley’s, Safeway stores, Nugget Markets, Davis Food Co-op, Total Wine and More, and other select merchants around California and Missouri. Fans will also find it on tap – in limited release – at select accounts.

To celebrate the beer’s release, Sudwerk will host its first Doppelgänger party on Friday, Nov. 20. The free event, at the brewery’s taproom, The Dock, will feature a look-alike contest (doppelgängers sharing Doppel Bocks). From 4 to 8 p.m., participants may bring their doppelgängers (or a picture) to receive discounts and prizes. If you don’t have a look-alike, don’t fret; you may find one after a Bock or two.

In December, watch for Bourbonator, a special release of the Doppel Bock that’s being aged in bourbon barrels. It will be sold in 22-ounce bottles and on draft.

Building on more than 25 years of family legacy and brewing tradition, Sudwerk Brewing Co. specializes in artisanal brews, specifically West Coast craft lagers. Its taproom, The Dock Store, at 2001 Second St., Davis, Calif., is open from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays, 4 to 8 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, and 2 to 8 p.m. on weekends. It offers a rotating menu of experimental and innovative beers, “honest pints” and growler fills, fresh White Labs brewers’ yeast, and good conversation. Learn more at http://sudwerkbrew.com.
