Traditionally early Germanic cultures or “Barbarians” would gather for big celebrations or feasts prior to the Oktoberfest celebration that started in 1810, this was the concept we had in mind when Barbarian Dinner was first being discussed as the kick off to Loveland Oktoberfest.

With shareable platters of meat and veggies piled high the concept was so unique we weren’t sure what people would think, but to our excitement,  people took to it right away. When the initial marketing posters sparked the question, “wait, I’m supposed to bring my own knife?”, that question was most certainly followed up by some variation of, “really, like any knife?” At that point, we knew we had something different and fun, but we were also a little terrified by the looks of possibility and excitement! Grimm made a big showing in the first year with the staff all decked out in their barbarian garb, but it was the fans that really made the night a hit, with the majority of them getting decked out as well, and buying into the celebration.  From leathers and robes to swords, knives, and battle-axes, people came out with the intent to impress, and that, they did making Barbarian Dinner the annual kick-off to Loveland Oktoberfest.

This year, Loveland Oktoberfest and Barbarian Dinner find a new home, moving to 1015 S Lincoln Ave, just outside of downtown Loveland. Grimm Brothers and The Loveland Big Thompson Kiwanis Club are proud to announce their partnership on Loveland Oktoberfest in 2018. Kiwanis has always been a big part of Grimm Brothers, and we’re excited they’ll be taking on a bigger role with Oktoberfest this year. The continued success of the event over the past few years has opened our eyes to its growth possibilities and the fact that we could finally use Oktoberfest to help give back to our community. The new Location will not only allow more room for the event, and ample parking, but it’s also right outside of downtown Loveland making it more accessible to the public.

Please join Grimm Brothers for the second annual Barbarian Dinner Thursday, September 13th from 6pm-9pm at 1015 S Lincoln Ave. Barbarian garb is highly encouraged but not required, however, you’ll be at a heavy disadvantage without your knife.
