On Monday, July 18, Lively Brewing Company / Ebenezer’s Brew Pub welcomes a new head of brewing operations, Michael LaCharite. A veteran of several influential Maine breweries and proud resident of Brunswick, Maine, LaCharite is excited to re-join the Lively Brewing Company team, bringing extensive experience and familiarity with the brewpub’s system and beer recipes.
“We are very proud to have Michael back overseeing brewery operations”, says Chris Lively, Owner of Lively Brewing Company in Brunswick and Ebenezer’s Pub in Lovell, ME. “He has a wealth of experience in the craft brewing industry.”
Prior to taking up this new role, LaCharite has served as owner or head brewer at Casco Bay Brewing Co., Baxter Brewing Co. and Lively Brewing. Notably, LaCharite created the popular Katahdin Red, brewed at the now-closed Casco Bay Brewing Company, and set up and commissioned the original brewery system at Lively Brewing in 2014.
LaCharite has additional experience working as a brewery consultant installing brewing systems through his company, Pro Brewing Systems, creating and installing brewery equipment in Maine and New England.
At Lively Brewing, LaCharite’s focus will be to bring back some of the original beers and recipes that were popular during his tenure as head brewer. Some of the beers slated to return include Lemon Haze, a slightly hazy Saison with hints of lemon and pepper, Mary Jane IPA, Space Taxi, a 12% ABV Belgian Quad, and a “super Saison” named Magic Mike. A Munich Dunkel is slated to be the first seasonal release this fall.
In addition, Lively Brewing plans to begin distribution of its beers into on-premise and off-premise accounts, including some bottled releases planned for the near future. Lively Brewing expects to distribute several of their American, Belgian, English and German beer styles in the Brunswick, Greater Portland and Mid-coast areas, with canning and bottling beginning in 2017.
When asked about returning to Lively Brewing, LaCharite was enthusiastic about the brewpub’s future. “I’m really excited about getting back into the brewery and brewing some of these wonderful beers that I created throughout my career and getting them out to more people than previously through new distribution channels. I really want to put Lively Brewing on the beer map.”
