Outside Magazine Names New Belgium Brewing One of America’s Best Places to Work for the Eighth Time

Outside Magazine’s annual “Best Places to Work” list includes one brewery, 100% employee owned, B Corporation New Belgium Brewing. Outside’s “Best Places to Work” celebrates the innovative companies setting a new standard for a healthy work-life balance, giving back to the community and best workplace practices. The full list of 100 companies is available at:http://www.outsideonline.com/2134736/best-places-work-2016.

Outside and Best Companies Group ran the selection process, which was determined by random employee-owner satisfaction surveys to collect information about benefits, salaries, flexible workplace policies, progressive business practices, community and environmental initiatives, and perks.

“Progressive business practices like employee ownership and open book management enable our co-workers to share in the company’s success and in our challenges, pulling us together as a team and a family,” said Bryan Simpson, PR Director for New Belgium and 19-year employee-owner. “It’s especially rewarding to see that the values that have driven us for the last 25 years continue to resonate with our co-workers and show results in the marketplace. As a member of the B Corp community, we believe business can be a powerful force for good in this world.”

New Belgium, which opened its second brewery in Asheville, NC this year, has a high-involvement culture where its 800 employee-owners work hard, play hard, and give back to their communities. A wellness committee ensures opportunities for mental and physical wellness with on-site massages, acupuncture, art-making and yoga, a volleyball court, climbing wall, indoor slides, foosball table and ping pong.

Co-owners receive a New Belgium bike on their first anniversary of employment; after five years with the brewery, they enjoy an all-expense paid pilgrimage to Belgium to learn more about beer culture and historic roots of the company. New Belgium also practices open-book management so all co-owners experience the rights and responsibilities of ownership.
