Share Post

They say northern Colorado is the Napa of Beers as craft beers have a strong presence in the cities north of Denver. But what about curling? Isn’t curling a Canadian sport? Not any more as curling clubs are popping up all around the state. And curling and beer always go together. So craft beer enthusiasts get ready for some curling.

The inaugural Knockin’ Rocks Brooms & Brewfest will be held on Sat, June 29 in Fort Collins, CO at NoCo Ice Center home of NoCo Curling Club, the only curling club in Northern Colorado. In combination with the 3-day Bonspiel, a curling tournament, Knockin’ Rocks will be open to the general public from 1-5 pm and VIP guests from 12-5 pm. All festival goers will get the chance to taste samples from almost 20 breweries and chat one-on-one with the brewmasters. And if they come early, or stay late, they can catch some curling matches inside the rink at no extra cost.

Knockin’ Rocks festival tickets can be purchased online or at the door on the day of the festival. For an online discounted rate of $20 regular admission receives six 4-ounce samples and a 5.5 ounce commemorative mug where as for $60 VIP admission receives 9 4-ounces samples, a 5.5 ounce commemorative mug, festival t-shirt, VIP area with additional beers and food pairings, as well as early festival entrance. Live entertainment and food vendors will also be at the festival.

NoCo Curling Club began hosting leagues throughout the year for men and women of all ages in the summer of 2012 and has steadily risen in participation. Denver Curling Club will be opening it’s own curling arena in 2014, Broadmoor Curling Club hosts leagues out of Colorado Springs, and Aspen Curling Club has been around for over 7 years. With the 2014 Socchi Olympics coming soon, curling enthusiasts are growing in numbers as more and more find it to be a fun sport for all ages to learn and enjoy. Most curling clubs including NoCo Curling Club host Learn to Curl sessions for anyone wanting to give it a try before signing up for a league, a great outing for the family or with a group of friends.
