Creature Comforts and Other Half to Release Collaborative Brew this April

Creature Comforts Brewing Company collaborated with Brooklyn-based Other Half Brewing Company to brew a Baltic Porter named The King’s Ransom. This beer was packaged in 12-ounce cans and will be released on April 8 at Creature Comforts.

The King’s Ransom is a strong, chocolatey Baltic Porter with a 10.2 percent ABV. In order to develop a rich and silky character, The King’s Ransom has a big, complex malt bill that features several types of dark or roasted malt in addition to the crystal and Munich malts. Although the brew does not contain any smoked malt, after its fermentation it developed a smooth, smoky quality.

“The intention was to develop a cohesive, but nuanced malt-driven beer that is rich and luscious, but not cloying,” said Creature Comforts Co-Founder and Brewmaster Adam Beauchamp. “Creature Comforts is well-versed in lager brewing because of our experience dialing in the Bibo recipe over the course of a few years now, and Other Half is very versatile when it comes to recipe creation. So they brought a wealth of knowledge on flavor development.”

The name The King’s Ransom was agreed on while the group of brewers listened to a Black Star album during the brewing process. The name is a nod to Mos Def’s first verse in the track “Re:Definition”.

“This beer turned out amazingly smooth and nuanced for a 10.2 percent lager and collaborating with Creature Comforts was awesome,” said Other Half Owner and Brewmaster Samuel Richardson. “We got to spend a day hanging out with great brewers and people, and the end result was a great beer.”

The King’s Ransom will be available on-site at Creature Comforts and at select events around Athens and Atlanta. For more information about Creature Comforts Brewing Company visit www.creaturecomfortsbeer.com. For more information on Other Half Brewing Company visit www.otherhalfbrewing.com.
