Takes the Brewery Back to Its Dry Hopping Roots

Houston, August 19, 2014 – To celebrate brewing Saint Arnold Amber Ale for 20 years, the oldest craft brewery in Texas this week released Saint Arnold Amber Ale dry hopped with Cascade hops. This is the second of three small Amber Ale batches, each dry hopped with a different hop variety. The first beer of the series, which was dry hopped with Liberty hops, was released earlier in the summer. Saint Arnold Amber Ale dry hopped with Cascade hops is available in 22-ounce bottles wherever Saint Arnold is sold, as well as limited casks.

The third release in the series will include Amber Ale dry hopped with Mosaic hops.

Cascade is the bittering hop in every batch of Amber Ale, but is known for being a versatile hop. It originated in the Pacific Northwest and has deep roots in American craft brewing. When used as a dry hop, it contributes a spicy citrus aroma more commonly associated with American Pale Ales. This aroma strikes a pleasant balance with the caramel maltiness and light fruity flavors for which Amber Ale is known.

Normally, Saint Arnold Amber Ale is not dry hopped.

Saint Arnold Amber Ale Dry Hopped with Cascade takes Amber Ale back to its roots. In earlier days, the brewery dry hopped casks of Amber Ale with Cascade. At the time, this was one of the only cask ales you could find in Texas.

Saint Arnold Amber Ale played an important role in introducing locally brewed craft beer to Texans. It is well balanced and full flavored with a rich, malty body with a pleasant caramel character. Saint Arnold uses 2-row pale malt from the Northern Plains and specialty Caravienne malt imported from Belgium. Cascade hops are added early in the brewing for bitterness to balance the malt sweetness. More Cascades are added in the middle of the brew to give a pleasant hop flavor. The beer’s light fruitiness is derived from Saint Arnold’s proprietary yeast strain.

Saint Arnold Amber Ale is best consumed at 50 to 55 degrees Fahrenheit.
