Cape May Brewing Company Rounds Out June With Festivals, Beer Dinners, and Tasting Events

On Friday, June 26 from 7-9pm will be a beer tasting event at the Continental restaurant at the Pier in Caesar’s Casino. In a sunken fire pit lounge and kitschy California dining room, attendees will sip four Cape May Brewing Company beers: The Bog Cranberry Shandy, the award-winning Coastal Evacuation Double IPA, the “Jersey Fresh”-designated Honey Porter, and the Devil’s Reach Belgian Ale. Each is designed to complement a savory passed hors d’oeuvre crafted by Executive Chef Brendan Mullen. “We like to keep our beverage offerings fresh,” says General Manager Jon Karp. “We love Cape May Brewery’s beer, and our new chef has a lot of experience with tasting events so, in our minds, this is the perfect way to kick off summer.” Tickets can be reserved for $33 a person by calling 609-674-8300.

 On Friday, June 26 from 6:30-9:30pm and on Saturday, June 27 from noon-4:30pm will be the Sixth Annual Lansdale Beer Tasting Festival showcasing 300 beers from 100 breweries, including CMBC. Expect live music, tasty food from local vendors, even a special Brewmaster session featuring expert beer-making presentations. “We like to think we are the true beer lover/Geek’s beer fest,” says spokesperson Drew Stockmal. “If you can’t find a handful of great beers in our lineup then you’re just not trying.” Tickets vary in price depending on time slot, and will likely sell out (they have the last two years!). On Saturday, June 27 from 12:30-4:30pm will be the 19th Annual Battleship Beer Festival run by The Garden State Craft Brewers Guild and held aboard the USS Battleship New Jersey, the nation’s most decorated battleship and one-time home to over 55,000 sailors. More than 20 breweries, including CMBC, will be on site for what’s become the state’s longest-running beer festival. Says the ship’s Marketing Vice President Jack Willard: “We hold the event on the fantail, which is the tent rear deck. It’s where propeller planes and helicopters once launched from. So to sample delicious New Jersey craft beer from such a unique location is truly memorable. Plus we offer some amazing views of the Philly skyline and Delaware River. On Sunday June 28 from 5-8pm will be an eight-course, tapas-style dinner at Uno Pizzeria in Maple Shade. “It’s going to be state against state,” says cook/manager Anthony Frezza. “Half of the dishes will be Jersey-inspired and served with Cape May Brewery beer, and the other half will be Pennsylvania-inspired and served with Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company beer. People will vote for their favorite at the end.” On the Garden State roster is a Honey Porter-dipped and baked pretzel; a pork roll, egg and cheese sandwich served with the Abbey Dubbel; a mini Italian hotdog with peppers and onions served with a Cape May Saison; and a cranberry tart for dessert with The Bog Cranberry Shandy to wash it all down. “I’m saying New Jersey’s going to win, but I’m a New Jersey guy,” says Frezza. Once upon a time, twenty-something Ryan Krill earned a six-figure salary working in finance and real estate development in Manhattan, while his college roommate, Chris Henke, designed satellites. During a summer weekend at the Jersey shore, they brewed a batch of beer with Ryan’s dad that wasn’t half bad. “Should we open a brewery?” Ryan asked, only half-serious.
