Alaska Beer Week is here! 10 days of sudsy fun celebrating all things craft beer in Alaska. As always, HooDoo Brewing Co., located in Fairbanks, Alaska, has a week packed full of events for the beer lover, and the beer curious. From showcasing local food vendors, to a statewide collaboration beer release, Fairbanks patrons will surely find something that week that appeals to their tastebuds.

HooDoo kicks things off Friday night at 5pm with a statewide toast. Then, Saturday things heat up by tapping their 2015 English Barleywine – on cask and on draught.

There will be no shortage of beer releases during AK Beer Week. The following Barleywines will be tapped on Tuesday Jan. 13:

  • 2015 Mammoth Blended Barleywine Taste: Oak, Whiskey, Caramel – ABV: 10.6% // IBU: 35 // OG: 22.8 A Big Beer. The majority of this delectable concoction was aged in wheat whiskey barrels from Dry Fly Distilling for 11 months, then blended with a small amount of 2014 and 2013 steel aged Barleywine. This limited release will be available in beautiful 750mL bottles (more information on these will come out next week).
  • 2014 Barleywine Aged in Steel Taste: Caramel, Toffee, Raisin – ABV: 9.6% // IBU: 35 // OG: 22.8 Aged in our cooler for 1 year, the 2014 Barleywine has smoothed and matured since it’s initial release.
  • 2013 Barleywine Aged in Steel Taste: Caramel, Plum, Raisin – ABV: 9.1% // IBU: 35 // OG: 23 Aged in our cooler for 2 years now, the 2013 Barleywine’s malt character is becoming ever-smoother, but also beginning to increase in delicate complexities such as noticeable stone-fruit flavors.

Also new, HooDoo will be tapping the “I’ll Have Another” Rye Saison, an AK brewers collaboration brew for Alaska Beer Week. At the annual Great Alaska Craft Beer & Homebrew Festival, a few great brewers gathered ‘round a table in Haines, Alaska and came up with a recipe that each would brew on the first of Dec., using the same exact ingredients. However, how the brewers mashed in, and the temperatures for mash and fermentation were up to them. HooDoo Brewing Co., Haines Brewing, Kenai Brewing Company, Midnight Sun Brewing Company, Broken Tooth Brewing Co. and Denali Brewing Company all participated. At The Banks Alehouse on Thurs Jan. 15, HooDoo will host the tapping of this Rye Saison at 6pm. HooDoo’s version will be on tap in their Taproom on Friday Jan 16. A Cask version, aged on Saaz hops, will be tapped on Saturday Jan 17 to close out the week.

We hope you join us as we celebrate Alaska craft beer and our communities growing craft beer culture.
