DENVER, CO– In May of 2017 firefighters from Cunningham Fire (which merged with South Metro Fire in 2018) approached Copper Kettle Brewing Company with an opportunity to raise money to help with medical expenses for the family of Firefighter Engineer Michael Freeman.

Michael was the longest serving firefighter in South Metro’s history with a career served with distinction for over 40 years. Michael was near the end of his long career as a firefighter when he was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor.

The plan was to brew a beer with the fire department and to host a BBQ event around which to gather the community and raise money to help a firefighter family in need. Sadly, Michael passed away in July, just weeks before the event, so the focus surrounding the event transitioned to memorialize his memory and celebrate a life well lived. The event in total raised nearly $4,000 through food and beer sales along with individual donations.
