Saint Arnold Brewing Company Will Release Divine Reserve No. 17 on January 16

HOUSTON, TEXAS, January 9 — Saint Arnold Brewing Co. will release Divine Reserve No. 17, a Baltic Porter, this Monday, January 16 in bottles and on draft in select stores in Texas and Louisiana. This limit release series is always much sought after by beer lovers in the region.

If you travel from England to Russia through the Baltic Sea you might get a sense of the origins of the Baltic Porter. It is a beer that pulls on the traditions of the British Porter, the Russian Imperial Stout and the lagers of Central Europe. This rarely brewed style which dates back to the 18th century is a big beer perfect for that brief Southern cold snap.

The brewers at Saint Arnold set out to devise a big, rich porter that is deceptively drinkable and well balanced for its nine percent alcohol by volume. The key was getting a pleasant sweetness that balances the roastiness of the beer without being cloying. This was all achieved using a combination of Munich malt as the base malt with Chocolate Wheat and Brown malt to give the color and roast and flaked oats to round out the body. A healthy amount of Perle hops creates a balancing bitterness that is disguised by the body of the beer. The Old Bavarian lager yeast used in this beer is the same yeast used in Saint Arnold 5 O’ Clock Pils, Spring Bock and Summer Pils, and is the first lager brew for the Divine Reserve series.

“There is a friendly competition between our brewers to have their beer chosen as this year’s Divine Reserve release,” said Saint Arnold Founder/Brewer Brock Wagner. “When everyone tasted the Baltic Porter test brew though, we knew we had a winner.”

Saint Arnold Divine Reserve No. 17 Baltic Porter is best served at 50 to 55 degrees Fahrenheit and is ready to drink now, or you can age it and expect the alcohol to smooth out.

The Saint Arnold Divine Reserve series is comprised of single batch beers each brewed with a completely different recipe. There is no particular theme to the beers, although it can be assumed that most all of them will be big. Many benefit from being aged under refrigeration, not at room temperature. These limited batch brews are highly sought after by craft beer aficionados and sell out quickly.
