Beers Made By Walking and the Sutro Stewards Present Beer Hikes in San Francisco

Denver, CO June 2015- Beers Made By Walking, a program that invites brewers to go on nature hikes and make beer inspired by plants found on the trail has partnered with the Sutro Stewards to bring San Francisco residents a series of public hikes attended by local brewers. Four hikes take place throughout the summer, beginning with the first on June 24. Each hike is free and open to the public.

Brewers attending the hike are challenged to create a unique hike-inspired beer that serves as a drinkable, landscape portrait of the trails that are walked. The resulting beers will be served at a special event in October and proceeds from the beer will benefit the Sutro Stewards. Partnering breweries include Barrel Head Brewhouse, Woods Beer Company, Social Kitchen and Brewery, Fort Point Beer Company, Sirwisa Brewing Collective, Headlands Brewing Company, Pacific Brewing Laboratory, ThirstyBear Brewing Company, 21st Amendment Brewery, and Magnolia Brewing Company.

Hikes are free, but registration is required. The hikes are posted on the Sutro Stewards website at http://sutrostewards.org/events/event/listUpcoming. Hikes will start from the Woods Lot at 100 Medical Center Way. The Woods Lot will have free parking for participants during the hike and is also accessible by public transportation (easiest from the north side near the UCSF Parnassus campus).

Amy Kaeser, who led walks in Seattle with BMBW last year, will be spearheading the environmental education and guiding the tours and education on indigenous herbs.

About Beers Made By Walking:

Beers Made By Walking is a program that invites people to step outside and see the place they live in a new light. We invite brewers to take nature walks and make beer inspired by the plants identified on the trail. Since 2011, we have worked with over 60 breweries in Oregon, Colorado, North Carolina, and Washington. Our hiking and tasting events act as educational and fundraising programs for environmental organizations in the regions we serve.
