It took eight decades, but American beer culture has been reprised due to a shift toward craft beers of flavor and integrity. These beers are being produced by over 2,400 small and independent breweries in every state in the Union.
Steve Hindy, founder of Brooklyn Brewery, spent many years as a foreign correspondent in Middle Eastern countries where Islamic law prevented him from buying beer, so he and his colleagues learned to brew their own. After a series of life threatening encounters—car bombs, kidnappings and assassinations—he returned to the States to work at Newsday. Unsatisfied with his day job, his passion for brewing led him to found the Brooklyn Brewery.
